To allow the Subvert to be easily carried and keep it available for immediate access, its handle includes a polished stainless steel pocket clip configured for right-side, tip-up carry. Its blade has a satin finish, high flat grind, and a generously bellied edge.

A portion of the matte-finished liners is also exposed to allow access to a lanyard hole and to complement the aesthetics of machined accents on the knife’s pivot pin. It features 3D textured orange G-10 scales over thick titanium liners. They are capped by contoured orange G-10 scales and joined by a matching G-10 backspacer that provides additional strength while allowing an easy-to-clean open-backed construction style. The Subvert’s handle is built on a framework of thick, skeletonized titanium liners that give it outstanding structural strength and form the foundation of its stout LinerLock mechanism. The satin-finished blade also has a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole™ and rides on twin ball-bearing pivot washers that ensure an ultra-smooth one-hand-opening action. Its dramatically styled blade is crafted from CPM® S30V® particle metallurgy stainless steel and features a broad profile, pronounced belly, and full-flat grind for maximum Edge length and extreme cutting performance. I’m not entirely sure what the intent of this knife is but it is an interesting one.Designed by Israeli goldsmith and custom knifemaker Nati Amor, the Spyderco Subvert faithfully translates all the key qualities of his handcrafted “Sabotage” design into a premium-quality production folder. It has thick skeletonized titanium liners and a G-10 backspacer within orange G-10 handle scales. The blade is 4.14 inches long and made from S30V steel. It is based on knifemaker Nati Amor’s handmade “Sabotage” model. Half the handle is textured green G-10 and the other half is titanium (that’s the half with the Reeve Integral Lock).įinally, there’s the Subvert. Like the custom version, the Kapara has a red G-10 backspacer that gave it its original name.ĭesigned by Jerry Brouwer (hence the name), the folder features a more reasonably sized 2.77-inch drop point blade made from S30V. The knife is based on custom knifemaker Alistair Phillips’ design called the Redback. The Kapara is a long and thin knife that also boasts the Compression Lock - but with no flipper this time. This one looks like a nice, functional EDC. The Amalgam is another Compression Lock flipper with carbon fiber/G-10 scales. It becomes the most expensive Spyderco you can buy. Like the Nirvana, the Paysan will cost you a pretty penny. I really like the functional blade shape, which stretches 3.88 inches. The handle of the knife is made from a single piece of solid titanium. The Paysan is the spiritual successor to the Nirvana - also designed by Peter Rassenti. This is the knife that has people most excited it seems. It was designed by Jonathan McNees, a Marine and avid outdoorsman. The straight saber grind edge stretches the 1.52-inch blade made from CTS XHP while the titanium handle has a framelock. Edit: if you search Subvert in knifeclub, you’ll see that u/rebsGTO dyed his scales to make them darker, but not completely change the color. However I have not seen results of that yet either. This was is an interesting little folder to me. I’ve not seen any custom scales yet myself, but I have heard a lot of people want to RIT dye the scales. One side of the handle has a titanium scale and the other has a carbon fiber scale. It has a sleek, ergonomic design with a frame lock mechanism to keep the S90V steel blade engaged. This knife has the overtones of many Zero Tolerance knives because it was designed by frequent ZT collaborator Dmitry Sinkevich. This is the ZT Drunken… er… I mean the Spyderco Drunken. The blade itself is curved with a stylistic Emerson Wave feature and a small Round Hole for looks. The Tropen is designed by knifemaker Javier Vogt and comes with a bizarre 4-inch blade. Want a waved Compression Lock folder with a flipper tab? Spyderco’s got you. The Mantra 3 takes the general design of the Mantra 1 and adds carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales and a Compression Lock. The common feature of many of the knives in this mid-year release is the flipper/Compression Lock combo. The knife also has a fantastic top flipper tab that doesn’t stick out. Spyderco worked with Smock to bring his creation to the masses.

The Smock is based on Kevin Smock’s SK23 custom folder, which has a button version of the Compression Lock. We’ll start off with one of the more radical designs. You can see the whole 2018 mid-year catalog here. Here are 10 models that really jumped out to see. The 15-page catalog features an array of new models or updates like the Autonomy 2 and Techno 2. It’s nearly June and that means Spyderco has released its mid-year catalog with some droolworthy models we saw at SHOT Show earlier this year.
